when designing a logo for a web site and business cards is vector graphics preferred or needed? or is there an easier way to go? i dont mind spending the money if its needed but i just dont know shit about this stuff. any web designers here that can educate me?

Generally logos are created in vector format - but that's not a hard and fast rule. A high res image will work just as well. Mostly it depends on the design.
