I know what you mean on "real" mashed taters, my grandma only had some half fat butter and low fat milk, ummmm, real butter and heavy cream are what you need for real taters!
i had a friend in HS, Ted Cotton. he came from Tulsa, his mom used to do a fucking awesome holiday spread! i don't know if you'd consider it southern cooking, but definitely home cooking!
