    Chinese Democracy

    Thoughts?

I just had a chance to hear it. It's definately a much better comeback than AC/DC's Black Ice album.

I never expected this to be on the same level as the original stuff, but I have to admit the final effect is quite good. You don't have any of the "Welcome to the Jungle"s or the "Nightrain"s, but Axl Rose pulls off some great ballads (which is what they are most known for really).

Street of Dreams is a great song, even though it starts almost identically to November Rain. This I love is also very good.

All said and done... not quite as good as before, but still very good. 8 out of 10 here.

It's not too bad. I like the title track, but I still don't think its as good as their old stuff.

I haven't heard the whole album yet though.

It's garbage. It's not even Guns 'N Roses, it's just Axl Rose with some shitty backup band. At least AC/DC's new album is still AC/DC.

              It's Illusion 3.

              That's a good thing.

Let's see, Axl trying to perform at the VMA's like 10 years ago, then trying to get GNR back together again for a reunion tour, and now Chinese Democracy.

Yep, I'd say this is Axl's 3rd illusion alright.

band?? Band'S, and many of them. I really dont consider it GNR either but whatever. I love the OG GNR. Ive even lived the life quite similarly to their not-give-a-fuck attitude and a lot of their songs are close to my heart as well. I even hung out at the same places without knowing it....ust 10 -15 years later haha. Feel like they were some of the rare beasts that shared my life and drug taking philosophies. The more the better and dont stop till its done whether its a line or a kilo, and if you die, fuck it. They got their chops in Hollywood where Slash grew up and so did I so there are so many reasons I love GNR. I have NEVER read a book for my own interest. I recently read 2, one was Slashs autobiography and the next was GNR Watch You Bleed. I just feel like shit since I missed all of it. Its such a shame they couldnt keep it going. But I suppose thats part of what makes AXL so good, is his fucking mental problems. My cousins in Argentina went to their last ever public concert as the GNR of Illusions back in '92-'93. My parents always say its a good thing I missed the 70's since I would have definitely died many times over. All my guitar heroes are heroin addicts, and I know that would have befallen my fate. As it stands I already have OD'd 4 times. But I digress.

Anyways, GNR represent for me the last guitar-based, balls out, overt sex-drugs-R&R, Rolling Stones, Los Angeles locals, Gibson Les Paul ROCK band. And I havent heard the new shit, really. I do that a lot. Its like I dont hear lots of new shit from lots of bands I like because its a way of not tarnishing the unbelievable respect I have for them. I may have to give this album a listen, though. As a lot of normally-unimpressed people have given this album good reviews. Another thing is I was always a Slash fan and couldnt stand Axl's fucking neuroses. But I try never to judge shit that I dont know. Wow what a long post. I guess its because I recently have gotten back into Appetite, GNR in general, Live in Tokyo, and Illusions bigtime. Plus I worked for VR right before they broke up.

I thought it was horrendous. Seriously, I don't think it would ever get to a recording studio without it being Axl

Agreed, and they always will be. One more reason I hate the new album. The GNR name shouldn't be allowed anywhere near it.

Really now? I disagree, hearing the album a second time (going back to a few songs), it's definately something that's growing on me.

I think there's a lot of people who just pointed the finger way too many times before the album was out already judging the whole thing saying "It wont be the same, it wont be the same so it'll be garbage!" instead of listening in.

It's definately not the same, but it carries the same style.

I just don't hear it. I got it the day it came out, and I've given it a chance, but it's just not the GNR I grew up with.

Fuck yeah. Its hard to differentiate between something you love because its what you grew up with, and something you dont like because you just dont like it. I try to be open to everything, but I cant help but like the older shit of everything. Like Floyd WITH Roger Waters, Hip Hop when it actually was socially relevant, original Van Halen, original ACDC (although Johnson also rocks for sure), earlier Zeppelin as opposed to CODA, etc. How do I know if I dont like something just because its new, and I dont like something just because I really just dont like it? I hate being a music snob, but I find myself acting like one too many times.
