Shit, S. Louisiana has gone insane. Everybody here has UHP summer tires. NO ONE owns a set of snow tires. So far we are up to like 15 wrecks this morning, both bridges over the Mississippi are closed due to icing, most schools are shut down, etc.
No kidding. I can drive in that stuff with bald tires and an open diff.
My brother went to grad school in Atlanta. First winter he was there they got an inch, that is it, one inch of snow. It was on a Saturday - every church in the greater ATL area closed the next day.
He said he went out to get groceries and gas - wrecks everywhere and most of the stores were closed because people wouldn't come in to work.

I did once out of necessity, because my E36 with snow tires had a broken ignition tumbler and my 318is was the only functioning car I could use. I gently drove the car 6 miles down the road on ES100s with 2mm tread on them to get to the commuter bus lot. I was just really easy on the throttle, avoided sudden movements, applied the brake WAY in advance of stop signs, and the followed the cardinal rule to snow driving: drive slowly.

I was born in NC, and my dad told me if I had been born one day late, I would have been born at home, because the day after, it snowed a few inches, and everything shut down.

318 feels ridiculously fast in the snow. Every time you romp on the gas, the rear tires spin.
