True, 'i' is regarded as a real number, not just theoretical. I remember having to use it all the time back in HS. Pissed me off.

      Well fuck!

I think I passed the exam, but got an 80... Probably not.

Well, re taking Math here we go.

I raped my other 6 exams though.

And I have a Mechanical drafting exam tomorrow which I should make my bitch.

I don't remember any of it now.

some math is easy, which is why i thought i was going to be a math major. then i took discrete and linear algebra...

Much of the mathematical world is theory that we accept as true; but who cares. You are right though, not all math is easy, but a very large part of it is (for me). I went through linear algebra, set theory and all of the undergrad shit with ease, but once I got to topology, it was a different story.

Are you an EE? EE major? That's cool, I started in that program, but soon realized I was more of a mechanical person. But I'd just be a high school teacher my whole life if it didn't pay so poorly. I'll likely do it when I feel like retiring.

And Sam, in the grand scheme of things, it's not a big deal if you didn't pass the class. If your school is like mine, you can retake the class and substitute the grade. It's better to do it twice and understand than to barely squeak by and not remember anything. And what exact math class was this? I may have missed it.

I actually am exempt from my math final which is tomorrow because my average was higher than a 90 all quarter (i go to school all year round using the "quarter" system- not semesters)

I am straddling the line between EE and CS. Currently signed on as a CS major, because doing double majors at my college is considered suicide by rape.

What school? I've got a math major pretty much done, and I'll be finishing my ME degree soon enough. If I wanted to have done it in four years, it would have been suicide like you stated, but 5 years os perfect for what I've done. B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, B.A. (less credits than a B.S.) in Mathematics, minors in business and physics.

That's five years, two of them included summer quarter. I now wish that I would have just stuck to just my ME major because I would be done a year sooner and making real money. Plus, the minors and math degree won't really help me when getting the entry level engineering job.

It has bothered me as well. It's imaginary because you can't multiply something by itself and get a product of -1.

But the reason we need i is because (among other things) mathematicians really want to be able to solve every simple polynomial function. My set theory prof said a bunch of times that if something wasn't possible, a mathematician would simply make something up so that it could work.

                              For example, x^2 + 1 = 0. Solve for x...

                                I got a similar explanation...
