My e30 m3 and 190E 16V is still in beaver city in case you guys want to meet up. I'm just off 9th St TJ Maxx.

Tomorrow the car shipping guys will take them cars for a grueling 10 day trip out of state!! I was hoping it will be in an enclosed carrier.

I thought the road from Eugene, OR to Reno/Vegas via I-58/etc will be mostly flat? Are there any rough terrain out there?

I don't really care about the scenic route at this point, just whatever road is the safest especially with snow and rain. I will not drive a big truck but just a van, so traction is an issue.

So I'll take it that my best bet is to go Eugene-then I-5 south to Mount Shasta and cross to Cali border this time of the year? I will be leaving next weekend.
If you're concerned and scenic doesn't factor in, I'd drive the 5 all the way to Bakersfield, then cut over to Barstow and into Vegas on the 15. Flat and boring = safe. :) The roads into Reno are often closed or backed up due to snow...you're crossing a mountain range for crying out loud. You're much better off driving a bit further but having no fears of being stuck.

ok thanks a lot guys! I'm all set for I-5 all the way then Bakersfield to Vegas.

I actually have a Nuvi GPS but I just want to hear first hand experience. Nothing beats the human data.

That will be the safest route for weather. But bring a cordless drill with a 1" hole saw for the trip. Your brain will swell from the boring ass drive on I-5, and you'll need to relieve the pressure.

+1 on the safest route this time of year.

The route that Darin and I took would be faster, but I'd be afraid of hitting a lot of snow over the Sierras into Reno.
