With a 22" LCD TV he'd only get 720p, the 1080i and 1080p are resolutions that are not found on a TV of that screen size.

You can definitely pick something up for ~$400. For cheap, Bestbuy has one for $279.99 on their site plus shipping or store pick up. If your son is more of a choser than a begger, you can go with a good Sharp, Sony or Samsung LCD TV for your price range at tigerdirect.com, newegg.com, or amazon.com. It just depends if you want to deal with ordering off of website, but those three are reputable and have good prices.

for 22" 720p will be fine. Look for a vizio, or samsung - avoid anything else that is a weird brand name. Sony use to be the shit, but no longer. It should all have one(or more) HDMI inputs.

I'm with George on the HDMI inputs. Your son has a PS3 so the HDMI inputs make a significant difference.

Unless he's going to be watching Blu-Ray on it, that won't matter. No matter what either of the satellite providers claim, or whatever your local digital cable provider claims, none of them broadcast in true 1080i or p. Blu-Ray is currently the only true HD 1080p source.

My 50" Samsung DLP is 720p, and it looks just as good, if not better, even on HD cable channels as my friend's 1080p plasma Pioneer.

yeah i can. i thought if it wasnt dangerous to ship them i could have it delivered to his house and avoid the cab and or walk home with it. he carried a 60lb particle board desk home 3 miles. he said it sucked.

                  Those should ship fine...

                  jkjkjk

Seriously though, I would think shipping a 22" flat panel would not be to bad (I just received 8 22" LCD flat panels for my business computers two months ago from Dell with no problems). I would worry more about the larger and heavier flat panels with the lazy ass UPS drivers throwing them around. These things come packed really well, just get some insurance on shipping it just in case. Or send him the loot and let him get it.

Ive got a 27" Westinghouse, and I love it. I think you can pick one up for around 4-500.

These things are incredibly light. They're packed in real tight and the box can be carried much easier than a particleboard desk for sure. The 52" Sharp Aquos I speced out for my grandpa was so light I carried it myself, granted it was awkward since it was a pretty big box.

My 50" Pioneer Plasma got AIDS and died on me. Really sucks. The thing has been sitting for about 3 years now.

$400 is way more than enough money for what you're looking for.

check newegg.com as well. They seem to do pretty well and I just picked up a 40" lcd from them and service was top notch!
