If you're looking for free music, Amazon is not it. Since you said where to download music other than iTunes, I was suggesting another legal way to buy music downloads. Amazon MP3 downloads is like iTunes, but they sell MP3s with no DRM for sometimes lower prices than iTunes and offer some music that is not available on iTunes.

Torrents are files that work with a torrent program to download files from several different people. I.E. - One MP3 file is downloaded from several people in pieces.

Basically you download and install a program like uTorrent (There are many others as well), then go to a website where you can download Torrent files( www.mininova.org and thepiratebay.org are examples). Find a torrent file for the album/movie/program you want to download and download the file. Then open it in your Torrent program. The program will then connect to several other people who also downloaded the same file and will download a piece of it from them. It's that simple. It is also virtually untraceable since you are downloading from several different people and each piece you download is just some piece of another file.

I use uTorrent and love it. It's free and uses very little system memory. I also get my torrents from http://thepiratebay.org and www.mininova.org, depending on what I looking for. Mininova is in the uk, so I go there for episodes of Top Gear and anything else I can't find at The Pirate Bay.

Just be sure to look at the comments of the torrent before you download it. While most torrents are in fact good, some don't work or have problems.

Also, look at the number of Seeds and Leechers. Seeds are people who have the file and are sharing it, Leechers are people who have the file but aren't sharing it. The more seeds, the faster the download will be.

After you download a file, you should always leave the file running for a while so others can download it from you. Yes, it takes some of your bandwidth, but it's the only way the system can work. For every file you download, there is a ratio for how much you've downloaded compared to how much you've uploaded. A rating of 1 means you've uploaded as much as you've downloaded. Try to stay at least at one, more if you can.

                      Hope that answers any questions.

I use Vuze, which used to be Azureus. Torrents are nice but sometimes you can't always find what you need as quickly as using a program like Limewire. I've never had any issues with LW. Just my .02 cents.

uTorrent is a gr8 application. Highly recommended. Also, before download the file, don't forget to read comments left by other users about the file. Sometimes, you could get viruses/trojans through those files.
www.isohunt.com is also another good torrent site. Have fun
