      I suppose I should ask the deeper question: how many of you guys actually USE the ipod as a portable (as in with headphones) music device?

          3rd gen ipod- basically a harddrive that sits in the car with all my music plugged into the deck.
          Iphone- use as mobile ipod with headphones
          Ipod shuffle(coming soon)- gym music player

          if you manually sync your ipod you can add songs from other computers. In itunes you have to select your ipod and then disable automatic syncing. Then you drag songs onto the ipod icon(left side of itunes) and this will add them without deleting everything on it. There are more complicated ways to do this to but i think we should stick with the basics here.

              Yeah and it looks exactly the same as it did when I used it on Windows 98.

                  here is my plan that i have had for a while.

                  i have close to 1000 Cd's. i have no idea how the number got so high but it did. i am tired of looking for them, dealing with carrying them around in the care, getting them scratched, breaking the cases, ETC.

                  i bought the 120 gig because it had a tonne of memory so i am now ripping ALL of them to the ipod. (i am on CD #179 right now). then they are going to be boxed up, taped shut and sit in my closet. i still need to finish fixing my deck (bad ribbon wire) and get my what ever i need to connect the ipod to the deck, then i can play my music in the car, plug it in at home whatever. that means that i will also no longer be forced to listen the shitty radio! i might ever reactivate my XM for the car and home now too.

                  i have a 1 gig shuffle that i use in the gym or work that i can listen to with out it weighing 20 lbs in my pocket

                      not true. regardless of the type of sync you use, your ipod can only be synced with one itunes library.

                        You=FAIL

                        Winamp 5 looks like iTunes (Bento skin). And before the Bento skin, there was the modern skin. and before that, the classic skin. ALL of which you can download THOUSANDS of other skins to make it look like what ever the hell you want it to look like. OR make your own if you feel like it.

                          I use my shuffle clip every god damned day

                          because I don't need a screen to tell me what I'm listening to and I actually like the music that I have.
                          Not that I care, of course.

                            My 120 gig Zune lets me plug in to another computer and sign in as a guest, download whatever I want without affecting what is already on there, then go back to my computer and upload it... presuming the files are not DRM protected. DRM sucks.

                            I have no beef with the IPod/ITunes Kool-Aid drinkers, but I HATE the invasive way Apple installs software.

                              I had a 8GB Creative Zen Micro for 3 years until my little sister smashed and then I got a Creative Zen Micro Photo to replace it and that's lasted me from 2005 until now. I had my friend get a Creative Zen Micro the same time I did and his still works till this day. 6-7 years for one player is great compared to what I heard about iPods. Creative makes great players.

                                Hold down the Ctrl + Shift keys when connecting your iPod to your computer. Keep holding them down until the iPod appears in the Sources area of iTunes. This will prevent the iPod from automatically syncing with your iTunes Library/playlists.
