    G5 iMac trade

alright so i have a G5 iMac..160gb and all that jazz. for some reason im wanting a laptop. some guy wants to trade his Powerbook for mine. he said "It's a Powerbook G4 1.6 GHZ, 1GB RAM, 80GB HD with OS X 10.5.6 (Leopard). It's the aluminum with a new battery and wall charger. Yes, Back lit keys."

mine has leopard as well. i also have Final Cut Pro. should i ask for cash on top of this? thats what im leaning towards since ive seen a lot of them go for 5-600 dollars. any input would be rad.

I'm not sure about the pricing, but it seems like a good enough deal. Keep in mind that 1gb of RAM on a notebook isn't too much nowadays, I'd consider upgrading. Also, be sure to do a thorough erasing of your HD before trading, as data can easily be recovered after you "delete" your personal files. Do this by hitting "C" on boot with your leopard CD, and reinstall the OS using HFS partitioning. You should be able to reuse your Final Cut license on the new computer.

(I'm posting from my roommate's handle, majored in computer eng.)

    hope this helps

yeah thats what i was planning on doing. i dont really use my mac for much other than the internet and school papers and music. i have about..130-140 gigs of skate footage. the rest is music and pictures and all that other random stuff. i can buy an external HD to put this stuff on right?

edit: so should i ask for money on top? the comp i have goes for 800 (give or take) around my neck of the woods.

prices your quoting seem steep considering a new macbook is going for around $1000 and you can buy the core 2 duo imac for $1100.

yeah i know, im just saying the prices around here which people have listed them for. all im trying to do is not get ripped off since i have 80 more GBs, you know what im saying? i thought that, and since mine has the built in camera that i could get more out of it? and im not looking at a macbook. im looking at a powerbook.

Yours is worth a little more than his. Just ask him what you think his is worth.... how many GHZ do you have? Is it duel core?

i don't think powerbooks were ever dual core. that came after the switch to intel.

its a 1.83 GHZ intel core 2 duo processor. i think i might just sell it, buy a powerbook and with the money left over..use it towards my e30.
