    digital camera advice

I'm still using our 8 year old 3.3mp Sony camera... I can take a pretty good picture with it still, but if i want to take some really nice compositions the colors get noisy the textures blur and it's generally hard to focus.

I got some gift cards for Best Buy so you can probably guess what i'm looking to buy. I would like to get at least a 9mp. I've got about $50 in gift cards and was looking at a few in my price range (gotta save for the big e30 project):

A few more for less money but less megapixels:

Are point and shoot cameras these days pretty good? Like I said, i hate getting noisy colors and bad focus.

Go with either Cannon or Nikon. There is a nice Cannon that I bought my son for Christmas that is 10mp and about $150. The Cannon point and shoot cameras have a bit of a better rep than the Nikons. I use an older Nikon and it is OK, but not great.

I would stay away from Kodak and other rebranded models. They haven't ground real lenses in years.

How serious are you about it?

You want a DSLR for sure but there is a wide range there...

My main bodies cost about $5000. (Nikon D3) but I doubt you need this.

Whatever the case may be... Invest in glass 1st I'd rather a cheap body behind fast glass rather than the other way around.

I'm a Nikon Guy but if you do go P&S go with Cannon.

In that price range, look at this one:

          Canon A590IS

It's $129, great value. Stick with Canon for P&S, as mentioned. The others definitely fall short.

+1 for Nikon DSLR and Canon Point and Shoot. The Canon Powershot series is great for point and shoot.

I like Fuji cameras. If you want to stay Sony the DSC-W150 is really good, its 150 right now I think.

Yes... Fuji does have some really good image processing...

                    I forgot about them.
