I'm getting as sick of Craigslist as I did of ebay

This is the second time within a week I've had someone flake on me for something I'm selling. I've got the canopy from my pickup listed on Craigslist, and the first guy called last week, said he was really interested, and that he was coming by to check it out. So I hung around close to home all day, had to turn down plans with 2 people, all so I could wait for this asshole that never showed up.

Then today, a guy actually came to look at it, took measurements for 20 minutes, and was totally sold on it. He said he had to go back home and take his existing one off, do some things, and he'd be back at 6 with the money and to pick it up. So now it's 7:30, I've called the guy twice, and he's nowhere to be seen.

Maybe it's just because I'm getting older, but it seems more and more, if the outcome doesn't affect them directly, people just flake on whatever they want, not giving a single thought to the people that were waiting on them.

You need to get back to work! You are getting restless.

I always set the time/date/etc around what works for me first and foremost... I actually believe a percentage of people inquiring on CL simply wish they could buy and just act as if they can or will. If someone really wants to buy, they will meet up on the seller's terms.

I keep small things in my trunk or back seat though. That way meeting is alot more flexible.

It's just annoying. He could at least call and say "I can't make it tonight" or "I mulled it over a little, and can't buy it right now". I wouldn't be upset by that at all. But instead, he makes me sit here all night waiting for him, and doesn't even answer the phone. And after he haggled me down to $50 less than what I was asking.

I know what you mean. I waited 2 hours for this guy to sell me his car. I must have called about 10 times. I even drove 50 miles to see it. Never once called me back and didnt even show up...

I had someone do this to me last summer. I gave the the guy a smokin deal on a SLP CAI for a LT1 ($50) they usally sell for $125+. He was happy as hell that i'd sell it for that. He called twice, both times never showing up. You just have to wonder sometimes.

If they don't show up on time, just call them, leave a message, and go about your day. If they show up after that, their problem...

i drove to reno from sac, about 80 miles to look at a 74 2002 that supposedly had a 5 speed. when i got there and drove it, the guy then told me it was a 76, and it only had a 4 speed, then he was pissed when i didnt buy it. i hate people like that.

I always make a point to keep my CL arrangements, or at least keep the buyer/seller in the know at all times.

Some people just have an aversion to doing unpleasant or difficult things. It is not pleasant to have to call a stranger and tell them that you can't meet them when you thought you could or that you've changed your mind. So they just don't. No human decency. The worst kind of people, and they're fucking everywhere.

Sometimes they do show up at the agreed time/place, but "only have xxx amount". I have sent more than a few people home empty handed because I wont accept that form of haggling.

One time I was selling a microwave (for 25 bucks) from my old place, this guy showed up and said "i only have 20 dollars and my checkbook. So you can take the twenty or i can write a check."

I said, OR you can give me the twenty AND write a check.

I get annoyed with all the knuckleheads i keep running into as well. For the most part its been normal people but the bad one ruins it for the rest. I feel like not using Cl sometimes too. My other big annoyance is when people have something for sale and never return emails.
At least just say "it sold" and hit enter. How hard is that? And of course they are the ones that leave the add up for months. Or the spam filter catches all of their precious emails and they wonder why stuff never sold.

I have more of a problem with people not responding to messages or e-mail when I'm trying to buy something.

I am with you Josh. I also hate it when I make plans with people and they bail at the last minute. It happens consistently.
