Question for all the computer nerds.

Ok, I have an issue at work

I can remote into about 95% of our servers (remote desktop for windows, SSH tectia client for Solaris/HP/Linux or Symantec PC anywhere) from my desktop. The other 5% I can remote into, but cannot map my network drives, and these boxes all run Windows Server 2000.

Short of loading the needed scripts, AV updates, programs onto a CD and going out onto the server room floor I cant do any work. Its difficult to do this because there are fucktons of servers, which arent labeled either. Ive spent hours searching for one or two boxes just to run a WSUS update or the like. Is there a way that I am just not seeing to map my network drives to these boxes?

Are they on a domain? Are they updating with LDAP correctly?, etc?

When you log into the servers, are they any application log errors? More specifically, stating they can't contact a Global Catalog server for your domain? You mention these are servers across domains, which is why I am asking. You might just be logging in on cached credentials.

              nope, tried it.

Usually when I remote in on the Remote Desktop tool, you can go into the options and check the option that lets you take with you your drives that you can access from your desktop.

i.e. if you can access X:\ drive from your desktop, but not from the server you are remoting into, this gives you the option to kind of virtually "take the drive with you" into the server from your desktop.

Use WinMSG to send a message right to the screen that produces a popup that says - Hey, Where the fuck is this machine please call "insert your extention here"

The only problem with that is sometimes the pop up dialog boxes will not pop up over other windows or if the machine is a server and is locked. When it is unlocked by someone then they should see it.

This is where I have my thought process at ^^^, def sounds like an ldap com issue if it cannot authenticate your SID with the GC.
