USGS + G.Maps; check this out : RideWithGPS

So there is this site which you will find useful for driving your e30, motorcycle, running, hiking, and basically everything else you do while being mobile outside- http://ridewithgps.com.

It has similar route mapping capabilities at google maps, with the advantage of incorporating data
from the US geological survey.. meaning it displays an elevation histogram as well.

I suggest make an account, poke around - I bet you'll like it..

You can get some more information here:

here is a screen shot so you have an idea..
what do you guys think? ..

Haven't made an account, but I've driven many times on the roads in that area pictured - lots of good driving roads out there!

You won't find traffic maps. Road conditions will come soon -

There are 2 ways this works:
one way, like you said, is to set your GPS to record a trip - drive/run/cycle the road and then upload onto this site.

the other is you log in, draw out a road you like and it will fetch the elevation differences and mileage while drawing it out so you can show people a cool road that they may have never seen before..

If you drive your e30 on stairs, you're gonna have a bad time.

..I guess it is similar, although that site seems extremely primitive.
