I loved the grand challenge. That motorcycle was sadly pathetic. D.A.R.P.A. is the shit. Why be afraid of progress? I hope someday we can kill our enemies while sipping a martini and laughing with family.Comment

Or our enemies can come kill us while they drink beer and laugh with their families. History has shown that great technological advancements are only truly effective for a short amount of time. Within a few years, the rest of the world acquires the same technology and you are back at square one, just with far more damage capability on both sides.
War without human consequences is a scary proposition.
Not to say I don't support robotics research. I just think we need to be extremely mindful of the consequences.

I read about remote controlled bugs years ago in grade school. The only thing new about this is they did it wirelessly. Cool technology.
And yes, I did think of the Fifth Element.
