this bill is very short sighted... they just mentioned teh carbon footprint, that's only the carbon Cost. they do not mentino the potential

sema's largest group are american muscle cars, all most all of which get less than 18 mpg, and none of which do once they are modified.

they already have passed legislation to raise registration costs. it now costs $50.00 for a collector car plate instead of the $3.00 it cost in 2008.

...1.5-4.5k voucher for cars that (most of the listed ones) are currently worth $6k-15k... not really logical.

speaking of underhanded shady ass shisty shit happening right before our eyes, anyone else notice how gas prices are climbing at the pump even though we currently have the largest oil reserves in recorded history and the value of a barrel of oil is the lowest it's been in atleast my entire licensed driving career (over a decade)?

there's some sort of foul play at hand. and this aint any tin foil hat shit either.
...what hasn’t been done to an m20 yet?

any of you keyboard jockeys know how to write a vile trojan virus? ...maybe one that takes over your computer and says "write your senator about the increasing cost of fuel despite the raising supply and decreasing demand" across your screen

You miss the point. It is the lunacy that something like this 1) could be effective at their stated goals, and 2) would waste billions or even trillions ($2500*4 million) of dollars of our money. This could add up to 10 times what this "stimulus" bill is costing us now. If the politicians want to give money to the car makers and the union, then do it in the open. This "environmental" crap is not the reason for doing this.

I am seriously mad that crap like this keeps getting brought up by the government in the first place. I don't care that it "probably won't make it on the bill". It is the simple fact that there are elected representatives trying to get it on the bill in the first place.

And yes, SEMA has reasons for coming out against this bill. DUH. It is very obvious what their position is. That doesn't, by itself, invalidate their argument.

that's how govt works, regardless of who is in charge. that's why we have a senate and house, to "debate" ideas. in the end it always becomes a consensus of some sort. you can't please everyone all of the time. yeah, it's not perfect but that's democracy for you. if you disagree, use your vote.

Its supposed to, I believe the house had to vote on the patriot act within 2 days of recieving it. The patriot act is 500 pages long! Im sure they really had time to think it over, let alone read all of it. Not to mention the bailouts, Members of the house were told there would be martial law in the US if they didnt approve it. Fear-mongering much?

This phrase has been used before but "if voting changed anything it would be illegal"

Hmmm... I don't see how the government can outlaw trucks and SUVs that their own DOT agency saw fit to be built and driven only a few years ago. They approved the vehicle a few years back, now they should also take responsibility for them now.

The clunker thing is obviously for old cars that are not to their original specs.
Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.
