Guest repliedI am incredibly excited to see how they do Dr. Manhattan. I know everybody has a hard on for Rorscach, but Dr. Manhattan is by far my favorite character in the novel. You knew my name was Andrew or did you reference somebody else?
But I fully agree, even looking at the generator Veidt used to transport the energy, it looked like tentacles of energy coming off the main generator, not just the SQUID reference. I also laughed at the 3001's 1 being shot off to being "300." I enjoyed how well done Dr. Manhattan's story was played out. I expected it to be almost confusing if you hadn't read it, jumping from his origins to the future, but they cut just enough of it out to make sense to the every day person.
I also agree the character that played Rorschach nailed it, even though I was also saddened that Rorschach was a sufferer of "gingervitis" when I first read it. The somber, almost poetic monolouges were well done, and even though some of his monolouges were cut down, I'm glad they included the Pagliacci one while still showing the Comedian's life and death.
One of my biggest complaint, was not his voice, because I pictured it as being a muffling grunt, but that the review I read called it the "Dark Knight growl."
But did anybody else see the aforementioned E30?Leave a comment:

I was talking about my brother in law, Andrew. He's NitroRustlerDriver.
I thought Rorschach's voice was perfect, that's how I always envisioned his voice would be. I was also really happy they included the Pagliacci joke. I also agree very much about Manhattan, I thought he was done very well.
I'm going to see it again tomorrow.Leave a comment:

It depends on the theater Tom. Some will, some won't. Do you guys have Regal up there? That's what we have here, and they let you.
And if you read the novel Tom, you already know the character's backstories, you'll be fine. Trust me man, it was really, really good. Even with all the changes, I loved it.Leave a comment:

Guest repliedI hope this isn't true because character development was the whole point of the novel.
Also, does anyone know if the theater will allow me to use my unused ticket for a different showing?Last edited by Guest; 03-06-2009, 02:57 PM.Leave a comment:

there wasn't enough character development. you can really tell where time was cut down, the directors cut is supposed to be 4hrs or so. directors cut i feel, will be the only way to watch this.Leave a comment:

Alright, I'm awake, somewhat recovered (my wife is getting coffee), and I'm ready to say that this was PROBABLY one of the greatest movies made from a comic book ever. Sin City is still number one.
****** SPOILERS AHEAD ******
Yes, the ending is different. And Andrew is right, the giant squid would have been too much for the average movie-going crowd who just thought this was another action/superhero movie. But if you watch for it, there is a reference to it. When Dr. Manhattan is talking to Adrian Veidt over the TV while Laurie is yelling at him, you can see the letters "SQUID" on the wall behind Veidt, as an abbreviation for the project they're working on. I didn't have any problem with the new ending at all, in fact, I think I liked it better.
Many scenes were different. They had different characters performing different scenes from the comic, and many scenes were the same, but the dialogue was changed. This also did not harm the movie at all. It was like looking at it from another perspective. All the Rorschach parts were NAILED perfectly. The guy that played him was amazing, absolutely perfect for the role. Everyone else was perfect also, but I thought Dr. Manhattan's voice could have been a little different, it should have been more powerful sounding. But still, his character was amazing also.
My only gripe was that many pivotal scenes seemed like they went way too fast. Some were good, like The Comedian's murder, the scene at the end in Antarctica, but the scene at Dan's house/basement when Rorschach is first telling Dan of his theory went way too fast, and others were like that, too. But other than that, I had no complaints. And especially no complaints about Laurie getting nailed on the Owl Ship by Dan.
Bottom line? If you weren't a fan of the comic before a few months ago, or you just read it because there was a movie coming out of it, you probably aren't going to like this movie at all. I read this comic when I was 12, and again recently when I found out there was a movie coming out, and I loved every second of it. This is one of those movies that just wasn't intended for the average movie-going public. It was made for the fans.Leave a comment:

I'm glad I can say I read it two years ago and am not some one jumping on it just because there is a movie. For those of whom liked it, I'll wait for discussion. IE: When Josh starts posting again.Leave a comment:

I like how this movie has people excited about it that never knew of it's existence till a couple months ago.Leave a comment:

Why would you waste 12$ on something you're not even going to finish, only to go spend another 15$ on something you didn't like in the first place?it was good. would have rather bought it on blu ray whenever it comes out. me and my wife ended up walking out right when rorschash walked out into the cold and dr.manhatten started talking to him again. i was boooooored for the prior 15 minutes, oh well. ill wait till it comes out on blu ray and finish it.Leave a comment:
