i haven't read any of the comments in this thread but i must say i loved this movie. It was hard to not compare the movie to its novel counterpart but nevertheless I try to not compare different art forms. I thought the writers did a fantastic job of sticking to the book as close as possible. I would have been down for a 10 hr movie that didn't leave anything out but thats unrealistic and therefore we leave things out like the castaway storyline. The effects were amazing and beautiful almost to a fault because it would take you out of the experience that was the story. I thought all the actors were perfectly cast with the exception of Malin Akerson. Overrall the movie was the best of the year so far by far.

Yeah, I wanted to see that, too. They had that bar scene in the movie, where the bartender is all freaked out that he's there, but they didn't do the finger-breaking. They also placed it later in the movie than it was in the book.

There's two bar scenes, the one they showed actually happens at that exact time in the book.

You're right, but they combined the 2 bar scenes. In the first one in the book, Rorschach comes in and the bartender starts stammering and asking him not to kill anyone. Then he breaks the guy's fingers. Then later, the one you posted happens. In the movie, they combined the bartender part of the first bar scene with the one above.

general consensus from my friends is that the movie was terrible... however, none of us had ever heard of Watchmen before the movie trailers...i will probably netflix it.

Like I said before, people went in thinking this was gonna be Spiderman when of course it couldn't be further from Spiderman. I have a gut feeling it's money take is going to drop significantly from here on out. Which is good because that will mean I can buy the blu-ray even sooner.

I'll start by saying I've never read the comic but I loved the movie.

For most of it I was wondering why I should care that the comedian was dead, but the ending really wrapped it up well. What I got out of it: the big joke the comedian found so funny(and sad) was that to be saved the world didn't need people in costumes trying to be heroes, it needed a villain.

Overall I thought it was brutal, the scene with Lawrence during the prison riot? Holy shit, that was the most blood I've seen outside of a zombie flick.

Dr. Manhattan was terrifying, honestly if anyone like him were to ever exist it would be my life's mission to stay the fuck out of his way. "The smartest man on earth is to me, like the smartest termite on earth to you" fucking awesome line.

I didn't understand why every dude in the theater had to freak out whenever his dick was on screen. it's a penis, seriously if you pee standing up you should be familiar with them by now.

Rorsach was awesome, he does sound like the dark knight, but whatever, I can't picture him with any other voice. Has anyone else heard that guys real voice? Here it is:

Not at all what I expected. The meat cleaver scene is epic.

I thought it was more a film about the end of the world, and the downfall of man, that happened to have superheroes in it; than a movie about superheroes saving the world. Which I loved, totally new and interesting angle on costumed vigilantes.

my favorite lines for some reason:

"I thought you were on mars?"
"I am"

and rorsach's line about being locked up that has been mentioned 80 times already.

To be honest I didn't even notice when Jon was naked, but that's probably from years of 4chan hardening. Don't even notice or care anymore.

I just realized now though that I've never even thought about what the "big joke" is in Watchmen. Good theory, makes sense.

Exactly, 100% right. That's one of the most important points of the story.

Never read anything about the story, yet loved the film. In my opinion Rorschach's voice was much better then batman's considering his character was much more disturbing.

I think the movie is great because it highlighted some of the little nuances in the comic that otherwise wouldn't have done much for me. Like the scene where Silk Specter and Nightowl are taking Archimedes out for the first time in years; I thought that was strangely powerful. Little things like that. I totally dug the reworked ending, too.

The music was awesome, if only because I hardly noticed the Dylan cover in the credits. As a period piece, I think this was better than anything I'd seen in forever. Visually, the movie is just awesome. The Dr. Manhattan sequence (when he first travels to Mars) is one of the best, most artful things I've seen on the big screen in a long time. The movie harnessed a lot of the mystery from the comic, didn't spoon-feed us much of anything. For me, that means it was a total success.

Film stands alone, does a great job. Naysayers are either huge neckbeards, or they just shouldn't be watching movies that require any amount of emotional maturity. It was even more ballsy to make this movie when you realize that there was no way this movie wasn't going to get mixed reviews. And for Snyder and the writers to take their next allowance from the studio to make THIS, that takes arrogance. Which is exactly what we need more of in Hollywood.
