Chickenhawk. Robert Mason's memoir of his 6 month tour in Vietnam as a Huey pilot. such an amazing book, i would recommend it to everyone. I have always been fascinated with Vietnam because my grandfather served two tours, but never told me a word about it. It's interesting to read about Vietnam from the perspective of a helicopter pilot, and I just ordered the book "If I die in a combat zone: box me up and ship me home" to learn about it from another perspective. Just like to add, thank you for your service to anyone serving in the military on this forum.

Definitely a good read, and I believe he wrote a second one, though I don't think I've read it yet. Along the theme of Vietnam flying books, I've just finished "Palace Cobra" about an AF F-4E pilot's experience flying in Linebacker/Linebacker II in the last years of the war. Really well written, and a good follow up to his original "When Thunder Rolled" which was about his first combat tour flying F-105's during Rolling Thunder in the early years of the war. Lots of hair raising stories about them going "downtown" on strikes into Hanoi. Another good one I finished a while back is "Bury Us Upside Down", about the Misty Fast-FAC's in VN flying F-100F's. Currently I'm reading "Riding Rockets", a memoir of a career NASA shuttle astronaut, and former Phantom backseater during Vietnam. Seems pretty good so far.Chickenhawk. Finished "The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt" and "Theodore Rex".
The second one regarding his presidency is dull compared to the first regarding his growing up. Definitely worth reading.Comment
