I didn't think it was funny at all. If that was me hosting, I would have kicked him off the show without even going to commercial after about 30 seconds of his spun-out bullshit. I think its just a stunt. Like someone mentioned at the end of letterman he took his glasses off and shook hands again, also if you watch after the commercial lettermans demeanor changes a lot.

I would imagine hes doing it just because its so out of character so to speak for him.
