Cali smog peeps question in here

    Hey guys --

Went and got mine and my girlfriends car smogged today.

The e30 pass like a gangsta, her honda didn't. She's got a magnaflow exhaust and her air filter is supposedly pretty dirty (a oil changing place mentioned it to her last time she got her oil changed). Its also engine swapped (92 prelude engine or something into her 92 accord). This passed visual inspection, the only thing that failed was emissions.

Basically wondering, she's got two weeks before her washington tabs expire, i'm wondering what kind of options we have other then 'take it to a mechanic and get fucked up the ass'. She is freaking out about her car being towed and she has no way to register it blah blah blah etc.

    Any ideas?

Yeah, take it to a Mexican shop, pay them $200, and they will pass you. Done. We have a couple in SLO, and TONS all over the central valley.

Seafoam!! And clean the filter? Drive it really hard for like 15 minutes before you go to the smog place.

And go to Zee's smog he'll help you out.

          Why did it fail?

yeah, why did it fail? how old is the cat? when was the last time some basic maintenance was done on it? a high flow exhaust isn't going to fail a tailpipe test, something else is up with the engine.
and if you live in an enhanced area and have to go to a test only station, its going to be really hard to find one that you can pay off to pass you unless you know someone.

Apparantly it failed the 15mph test CO2 emissions

              MAX .74, AVE .10, MEAS .85

              25MPH was

              MAX .62, AVE .09, MEAS .43

So she failed by .11 on the CO2.

I don't have a garage to work in to start tearing stuff apart, and money is tight ATM cause of some other surprise expenses that arose, paying 120$ to 'smog' two cars is bullshit anyway, costs $15 in washington plus a free re-test

Will they just up and tow the car if its registration expires?

no, don't worry about them towing the car. its just a fixit ticket if she gets pulled over. i see cars all the time driving around with expired tags.
try a can of seafoam, change the air filter, get the cat super hot and i'll bet it will pass. its not that far off.
