I carry a knife and wouldn't hesitate a second to use it if someone started fucking with me. Even just pulling a knife will get the dumb fucks off of you. The problem is when they pull a gun and all you have is a knife.

There really isn't a good way out of a situation like that. SOMEONE is going to get hurt, and if it's 3 against one, you're pretty much screwed.

On a more serious note, +1 to not hesitating. If you feel threatened, put some distance between yourself. Who cares if they think you look like a "waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles". Odds are they should be grateful because you are preventing a situation where you might be forced to stab/shoot one of them.

if you back up and show the person/persons mugging you that you will fight back they will back off most of the time. they want to get easy money and if it is not going to be easy they will let it go most of the time. also if you do ever have to fight off a mugger go for the soft parts. eyes, groin, knees, feet an such. its not about being fare, its about winning. of cores you just want to avoid the fight all together.

a study was done with a bunch of inmates where they were showed tape of some city streets and asked who they would be most likely to mug. almost every time the inmates pointed out people who had their head phones in, had there heads down, looked tired or sick, or were not paying attention to where they were in some way.
the first thing any cop will tell you is to have your head up and be aware. street smarts. this guy got surrounded by three guys and did not even see this coming.
also if you are going to pull a weapon for self deafens you need to be ready to use it, and you need to know how to use it. if you are not ready to stab shoot or hit the mother fucker he will take your weapon from you and fuck you up.
this is what separates everyday people from thugs like the ones in the video above. they live in, and have most likely gown up around violence like this their whole lives and would not think twice about punching you in the face or stabbing you in the gut. on the other hand most of us have grown up in mostly non violent areas and have not been exposed to violence very much. this makes it harder to commit violence even if it means saving your self from a beat down. many people freeze like a deer in head lights when they get mugged, even people who have taken self defense or martial arts classes or tell them selves that they would be able to defend themselves.
so now that i have said this... do not think twice. do not feel bad. if some one wants to take something from you, or beat you up it is you or them. fuck them up! thats what they would do!
