I think the elitist people are the ones who try very hard to make fixies look like a trend. I've said it before and I'll say it again - there's no reason someone should care enough about fixed gear to hate it unless you just resent the fact that it's popular. IMO the "I'm too cool to be scene" fuckers and the trend followers are all the same - they just take it in a different direction. In short, anything other than indifference and you're probably trying too hard.

I would say that the availability of possible tricks with a BMX is MUCH MUCH wider for the mere fact that you can get a standard freewheel or run a freecoaster hub. Just switching those up opens up all kinds of new oportunities. The real hardcore guys have two bikes just for that reason, and broke posers like me just have a spare wheel :D
What I'm saying is that fixies may be ok for getting around, but people "stuntin" on them is just retarded IMHO. Let me see you dirt jump a fixie.... That shit would break in half!
I very much agree with Turf and notorious. To me, all the people that hate on fixed gear bikes are just as trendy as all the people they're trying to say are trendy. Most of them hate on them because the people they hang out with hate on them.
I honestly don't care if my bike is trendy. I know it is. I'd be lying if I said part of the reason I got one wasn't because my friends had them, and I thought they looked fun. People can call me a hipster or trendy all they want, it doesn't bother me at all. 99.9% of everything anyone does as a recreation, hobby, interest or otherwise is because they saw other people doing it and thought it looked fun or interesting. Period.
And I'm not into the whole trick-bike thing, either. I mean, ring backwards circles and trackstands are cool, but all the freestyle stuff is just kinda dumb to me. I don't know why they don't just get a 24" BMX or something and put a fixed cog on it. But, different strokes.
PhillyG just seems to have problems with letting shit go.
