I think the universe has decided that it doesnt want me to have a late model e30. For the last 2 years I have been looking for a good condition Black '89-'91 325i/s and it seems like something always goes wrong!
So I have been talking to this guy in Minneapolis about his '90 325i since about Feb. 2nd owner of the car that originally came from NC. Car only has a tick over 100k on it, clean carfax, he seems knowledgeable and helpful and seems to have every pic that I ask for. Says no accidents, all original paint, no rust, all original panels, only mods are a cd player and a mtech2 rear wing. I figure sweet, I found my car! So confident that its just what I want I put it in my sig here! I get my money and book a ticket to God's Country to see my prize...
I get there... from 20 feet away the car looks very dirty but in ok shape. I figure its odd since if I was selling an e30 for top dollar I would have the car detailed before having a potential buyer fly half way accross the country. I start to inspect the car. The trunk lid is a replacement and the mtechII wing was not installed properly. Instead of clipping the egde of the wing onto the trunk egde it was screwed through the trunk and it was rusting around the screws. Both front fenders were DOT R fenders and one had a huge crease in it again. The interior was filthy and the gray door cards looked like they were kicked it. The rad support was tweaked and the bottom of the spare tire well was pushed a solid 4 inches in. Worst of all it looks liek someone had washed the car with sand paper. Skratches through the paint everywhere! every panel!
I was shocked at the condition after seeing the orginal 30 or so pics. I made my way back to the airport to book a ticket home. At the airport I busted out my laptop and went through all the pics again and all the damage I saw wasnt present. All I can piece together is that those pics I was sent were from when he first bought the car. Then probably gave it to his 17yo to drive before trying to sell it. I am pretty bummed right now. This is probably the 6th car I have tried to buy that eitehr wasnt as advertised, I lost the bid at the last second by a very small amount, or was beautiful on top and a rusted through on the bottom. SO again I am on the look out for my unicorn. A Mint, black, '89-'91 325i/s.
