so i made a big decision over the last couple of weeks
Most of you guys don't have a clue how depressing of a place Chico, CA is. I can't imagine what if would be like to be there, with out a job, or even a prospect of a job. So, lighten up a bit :)
I was thinking the same thing as Spiff325iS - Set a goal, say 9 month to drop the weight, and get your shit together.
You know that "friend of the family" of yours, they guy everyone says is "really smart", or maybe he owns his own business, maybe he has a big house you like, or a cool shop you would like to someday own - you need to get that guys phone number, and ask him out for a cup of coffee. Just call him up and say "hey, I'm so and so, I know you through _____. I really admire what you are doing, and I was wondering if I could buy you a cup of coffee - I'd really like to learn what you did to get to where you are today"
And don't worry about the guy saying no. Most likely it will be the greatest compliment he had received all month.
Just my 2 cents.
Bullshit. Chico is rad, besides all the whining hippies.
Here, get a job accident. And get your god damned GED fool.
dude i respect your decision to join the Marines. my dad was a Marine for 20 years, served in Iraq 3 times for a year each time. if you really push yourself you can lose the 100 lbs in 12 weeks, biggest loser status. good luck man, i'll keep you in my prayers.

1) You cant lose 100 lbs in 12 weeks. It wont happen.
2) Hes in CHINO, not CHICO.

i think you should try out wildland firefighting. you get to travel to new places when theres fires, you make a bunch of money while having alot of fun. and you get alot of respect from friends and family and random people whos homes you help protect. its a very rewarding job. and you dont need to be in "marine" shape to do it. ive worked with bigger guys, small guys, women, bodybuilder types, and just normal average types. your in california so you get a long fire season compared to up here in WA. youll have one of the best summers in a long time man.
Playboy rated Chico State number one party school in the Country a few years back.Great pub crawl. Large nursing school.Lots of trees and parks. Chino on the other hand is much like many of its surrounding cities. Known for its' Prison.

True, Become a Seasoneer, or CCC it up for a season.
Oh, my bad. Well, if you can't find a job living in the great LA area - ummm, I don't know what to say.
BTW - I still think my advice was solid.
It is great advice, but Chico isn't depressing, neither is Chino. People work hard as fuck to live in Northern Ca, i know, i did it.
A 9 month goal is a good idea, but the thing is this, don't join the Armed forces unless you really believe in serving your country. if you decided that high school wasn't for you, how are you going to react to the extreme structure the Marines demand out of you?
Why haven't you gotten your GED yet???? Not having a GED or Diploma is unexcusable. Be an adult, step up and complete your education. You don't have to graduate college to make something of yourself, you don't even have to graduate high school, but not doing these things make it a hell of alot harder for an employer to put its faith in you. If there are 25 people looking to land a position as a lot associate in Home Depot, and only 1 position is open, 2 don't have high school deplomas, and the rest do, do you think for a second that Home Depot is even going to consider an interview wit the two drop outs?
No
Get your head straight.

It wasn't that I didnt like the structure of high school, it was just too lax, and I found it to be boring and unchallanging. I would have had my GED a long time ago had it not been for some extreme circumstances, some including hospitalization, and some including almost being homeless. I don't know about where you live, but here it's $100 to take the GED exam.
I do believe in defending my country, as well as my friends, family, and others who can't defend themselves. I've wanted to be a Marine for almost as long as I can remember.
I feel the structure of the Marine Corps will be a positive influence on me. I have relatively little structure in my life, and I feel that I could greatly benefit from the discipline the Corps instills in recruits, as well as enlisted Marines. This isn't me trying to take the eay way out, this is me getting my shit together and doing something that I feel is worthwhile. I have quite a few friends who are Marines, and I respect the shit out of them.

If you drive your e30 on stairs, you're gonna have a bad time.
And, gg, and the rest of you www.Rif.com grads, it says Chino, not Chico. One is in NorCal, one is in SoCal.
kronus made this mistake once. he sent me a link to a junk yard in chico that supposedly had lots of E30s. I said it sounded cool, but probably wasnt worth the 6 hour drive. He was confused.
