Because it's part of the founding of this country. We are supposed to be able to defend ourselves. Some people take it out of hand.

im being serious now carl.. would you not want to retaliate if someone you cared about was killed or wounded? or would you seriously be able to turn the other cheek?
i could not do that. i would be in jail for murder if someone hurt someone i loved. just differences in people i guess. this is what i was getting at in my initial post. i dont totally trust myself under certain conditions and im afraid id make a mistake i couldnt take back but id rather have the ability to act than just sit there and be picked off

WHEN will you guys get it, a gun is not the PROBLEM its the GOOFY FUCKER THATS OPERATING IT. More guns would not have complicated the issue. I CCW every day and every where I go, other than the 4 months I spent in Binghamton NY last fall working because the Gun commies in NY wont recognize my permits.

Would a few people with a CCW have saved everyone, NO prolly not, But if there were a couple of people in there with a CCW they would have been able to react much much faster that the cops. As they are already in there. It very well could have been over before the 1st 911 operator has a handle on whats going on and has dispatched the authorities. The loss of life could and more than likely been much lower.

This is a classic example of the old saying, "When life and death is decided in mere seconds, the Police are just minuets away."

As far as carrying in the building I am unfamiliar with NY CCW law but if its like most places if the building is govt owned or leased no you cant carry, if how ever its privately held the yes you could carry.

                "What if" situations don't help.

Likely, but anything could have happened either way.

I don't like guns, but I firmly believe that banning them is the last thing we should ever do. Disarming the public is an extremely bad thing to do.

How about just letting the folks that wish to protect themselves do so.

Try to apply for a CCW in California and see what happens. ( Hint if you actually want one take a check for 5000$ for the Sheriffs re-election campaign, no I'm not joking ) Explain to me again how the current system works fairly for folks with no issues.

                      mister Hugh Jass:

making guns harder to buy legally, which according to you, may have prevented this incident, does not slow down gun theft at all, and the vast majority of illegal guns are stolen. IF somehow all gun production and sale would magically disappear, there are still enough guns in private ownership in the US to arm every US man, woman, and child.

When you think about that, how will constricting the sale of guns really make it much harder for a criminal to obtain one?

when i look at the big picture, it looks like a ratio: criminals w guns/law abiding ppl w guns.

when you constrict the lawful sale of guns, the ratio increases, even though overall there are less guns in circulation.

All these rules are doing is preventing the decent citizens from having a fire arm. The pieces of shit who want to have them, will and do have them. If the 'good' citizens were allowed to have and conceal guns, this cock sucker would be too fearful to do what he did. If more people concealed guns, Im sure MANY violent crimes would be decreased. You're not going to try to take my wallet if you know that theres a shot I will give it to you, then blow your fucking head off as you turn away. The laws do nothing but give these pieces of shit a leg up on the rest of us.

People rob stores all the time knowing that store owners and operators have and carry guns as well as knowing that officers fire at those who are holding a weapon.

Deterrents only work with the normal to somewhat normal crowd. Even then, there are external factors that can push someone over the edge.

People will continue to do the craziest shit regardless; they'll continue to commit crimes regardless.

Does it really matter where they came from when they blow themselves up for the point of this topic.
