If they really wanted to curb something that kills people and costs 1.89789 Gigawattbillions, would between thirty cents to a couple of dollars really be the aim?
Ding Ding Ding, they are trying to raise the tax to the maximum amount that people will pay and not be forced to quit. Thus extort as much money out of the consumer base as possible in the name of saving the children that were already saved to be-fucking-gin with. Jsut to fund more useless Govt. spending.

The Govt. dose not give a flying fuck if the citizenry smoke!!!!!!!!!! All they want, is to find shit to tax the shit out of to fund stupid shit, and since the majority of the populace dose not smoke anymore, and the act itself is shunned now its a easy thing to get the people on board with. You know it dose not affect me then I dont care.

Yep, If they could find a way to begin an "Internet Tax" they would, I bet in years down the line, we will be taxed on the amount of GB/month of data we access.

            it's "does", not "dose!

at midnight CST, we will no longer be able to smoke in bars and the like here in Texas. It's pretty crazy that it's finally here, but still establishments will cater to this by providing outside area to smoke.

I've always been one to respect those around me when I smoke. On campus I smoke in designated areas, next to friends I hold my cigarette on the far oppposite side etc. So I can somewhat respect eliminating smoking from certain areas.

            These are some interesting times.

I was so weirded out when I went out of California, and looked at the server like an idiot when they asked "Smoking, or Non-Smoking?" I have been to few places in Ca that still break the law and allow smoking inside. But then again I was at a bar with large, scary biker types who didn't obey the law regardless. You gotta watch out when you end up in one of their bars.

Sorry my Dyslexia and shitty spelling strike again :D

Yeah I was amazed to learn that they had passed that in Montana back in 05, Bars can apply for an exemption, but not a family restaurant that happens to have a bar. It must be a bar to qualify for it.

at first, here in Texas, it was about bar-to-restaurant ratio or some shit... Now, supposedly, it's every joint, regardless. I just can't see this applying to all the little dive bars we have all over the place. Those places are going to gain mad business if they are exempt. It wil be reminiscent of any cafe in Europe.

all that shit is null without enforcement... For years a sushi restaurant/bar we frequent were not allowed to let people smoke at the bar yet would let us light up and give us soy sauce saucers? to ash in. Note this is a nice semi upscale joint. They have recently set up a cigarette disposal joint just outside the door; whatever.

They enforce it. And, some cities in California have banned smoking in all public places. It is illegal to smoke outside your front door, and others are beginning legislature to ban smoking indoors period.

that seems to have worked for teh herbz..? It will be hilarious once cigarettes from other countries start getting sold on the same plane as pirated shit back in the day.

between marketing offers from Parliment, Marlboro, American Spirits, Camel, the stations that somehow manage to still sell brand name smoke at a great price, etc, it will be a long time before the supposed end result is ever acheived.
