    Titles: Stupid Ex Issues

Ok guys, here is the question. Back in 06' I bought a car from a dealership with my girl, currently and forever more my ex. I have no way to contact her aside from facebook, and the guy she's with wants her to keep the car even though he has no say whatsoever in what happens with it. Both of our names are on the title...at the time it seemed to be a good idea. She's not working, pregnant and has no phone and rarely does she get online. Can anyone shed any legal light on what to do about this, I live in Virginia, the car is registered in Florida and I need this thing gone and im not about to drive the pos all the way to florida, as i WILL get stranded out in the middle of nowhere with it. I have consent from her...even though its through facebook which I know that the state wouldnt accept as a final bid. My ultimate question is what are my options as far as 1)getting the title soley in my name without going through hell trying to find her 2)Setting the car up for the junker. I appreciate the help guys, this one is driving me nuts because I really dont know what to do about it.

Strip it, sell the parts and junk the rest, otherwise its a hassle not worth getting into. That is unless the car is actually worth it, but if it won't make the trip to Florida it doesn't sound like it is worth that much whole.

yea, that was another question, if i send it to the junkyard the title has to go with it meaning that both names are still on it,is that an issue?

Does the title read you and her or you or her? If it's and, you have to have written release from her. If it's or, you can do as you please.

You'd have to mail her the title, have her sign it and mail it back

Don't do that. You wind up in possession of "her" stolen car. How so? Look here, officer, -I- have the title!

Get her to sign and notarize a letter to you releasing her interest in the title. Just as if you paid off a car loan and the bank released their interest. You take the document to your authority and have them print you a title without her name on it. Done.

forge her signature on the back of the title stating that she is signing it over to you in the little box where you transfer ownership, then get the title updated.

call the DMV in FL? Call the DMV in your state? Report the car stolen?

Don't forge anything. With all the legal channels available? WTF?

A short letter stating who she is and that she is releasing interest in the car, signed and notarized will be more than enough. It should be just the same as signing the back of the title, Check with you local DMV/secretary of state/ Licensing bureau, or what ever the hell you have and see what their requirements are.

What ever you do dont send her the title to be signed or like stated above, you may have the cops beating on your door wanting to know what you are doing with HER car that you stole.

Have her go to a local bank that you have called and befriended or paid them to have her sign the title and notarize and mail back to you, pay them to do this, but DO NOT LET HER HAVE THE TITLE DO NOT MAIL IT TO HER. mail it to the bank.. have them do this and it will be legal. enuff said... chucker
