nope
i took like 300 photos and these were the only ones that came out well. there are a few others but they are very similar to these. it is extremely difficult to get things into focus when the spider is crawling around and you are holding the camera with your hands. the depth of field is like 2-3mm, if that.
here are a few staples still stuck together along with a ruler. each notch is one mm.
this cut is about the size of a pencil eraser, if not smaller.

You could also try focus-staking, that works well when you have a very narrow DOF.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Focus_stackingComment

lol...you might want to try an actual macro lens too...the other alternative to bring more light in besides a longer exposure is adding light, ie a flash. My macros generally are shot at 1/200th of a second (I'm using a 100mm lens), f/22, ISO 100 with a flash...what body are you using? I never use a tripod for macro, it's a PITA...unless you hav focusing rails, I guess. That would help. But I have found it's not needed, especially if you are only using a 30mm focal length...that will let you use much slower shutter speeds than I can afford.
Focus stacking is an interesting technique, but with the settings I mentioned I've never found it to be necessary...I'll play with it at some point though once I find a need.92 325ic 5 speed, hard top, windscreen, 133k, for sale

lylefk, that looks like the exact same type of spider for sure.
when i get back to portland, i will grab my 35-105 with the aperture ring, which will let me actually control the aperture. even if you stick one staple in the aperture adjuster thing on my 30mm, it stops way way way up. f22 is really close to fully closed.
most of the shots were 1/200th shutter speed with a flash, iirc.Comment
