    Cad software?

Hey, quick question, does anybody have a link to a decent cad design software? I've tried searching and tried downloading a couple but nothing seems to work (even install). Id like it to be a freeware or a free download, torrents suck because I can never figure out how to unzip everything.

I'd like 2D and 3D design, preferably with movement of object and assembly capabilities. Dynamics would be incredible also.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Good luck finding anything free. Torrents are your best bet. Might try contacting Autodesk or Solidworks about getting a free student copy or something.

Google sketch up can actually do some sweet shit. If you plan to teach yourself the CAD software then you need to teach yourself the next most important thing...downloading and installing crack software. But solidworks student version isn't like $60k like catia or alias.

So you want to learn cad, but you can't learn how to install software and need our help?

You do know at some point you're going to have to do some of this work on your own right?

IMHO learning cad on your own is dangerous. There are 10,000 was to skin a cat in a CAD program, and there is a good chance you'll learn the one wrong way to do it. You'll be wasting your time, getting frustrated, and your ADD is going to kick in and you'll be fucked. Plus your chance of success is low. You'll want a book to follow along and to do exercises at the least. If you're anywhere near a big city, they'll have a night class offering CAD at a community college.

But, you'll never listen to me - so, in the crack folder, or in the root , look for a "readme file" or a *.nfo file. I'll give you three guess what you'll want to do with that file. If on the odd chance there is no readme or nfo, then it's so simple you don't need instructions.

                  There is a free/open source cad program - but I hear it's a bitch - I forget the name.

                  EDIT: it's QCAD: http://www.qcad.org/qcad.html

I want to play around with it yes, and no its just for trying to learn something useful. There is no crack folder, there was a read me that simply said click setup.exe and below that it said open setup.exe and that failed. I used pea zip and extracted all files in torrent and it simply shut down my computer upon completion.

If its too difficult then its not worth it I would just like to find one and try to learn it from there. I can talk to the tech director at my school, he knows how to use it and could lead me in the right direction.

I'm pretty confused man. If you want to learn a CAD program take a class. You're not even specific on the software you want to download. I mean even if you get it installed you're going to be staring at some boring ass gray coordinate plane, then what? Pull out a sphere, punch it around? I mean seriously I can teach myself another modeling program because I've learned basics from another one. If I didn't have a class or teacher I would honestly have no idea where to begin. Not trying to sound like, "you can't do it," or something, but just good advice would be to take a class.....and then you can be a tube jockey, and yes we are all this cynical. ;)

it was not easy but they work like charms!!

looks like there's TONS of torrents out there, surely you could try downloading another one. Like the Autodesk Autocad 2010 [64 Bit] all it contains is an .exe, a keygen, and a readme, its right near the top on btjunkie.

Any recommendations to which software to go with for a first timer? What do most classes teach with?

For CAD, try: Cademia (open source = free)

For 3d, try: Blender (also open source and amazing.)

You can also do 2d cad-like design with blender. I highly recommend it. I'm a cinema 4d user, I've also used autocad, and both these open source alternatives are 90% as good as the spendy ones, and you'll probably use 30% of its features after using it a year... blender has TONS of tutorials and a great support forum, also once you get the basics down, lots of other program tutorials apply(like 3dsmax) just with different menu/toolbar locations for the same tools.

Looking for a clean e30 shell for a project.

my freshman year engineering class taught with autocad and solidworks. As stated above I would not suggest learning on your own. At least find a book and read/work through the chapters. Taking a class would be the best option. We did all our 3d modeling in Solidworks very simple and easy to use once you get familiar with the basic commands.
