How to make black borders like these?

I love to put black borders around my photos, it creates a finished edge and makes them look more professional. My question is, how do I make ones like these, with the glow/blur on the inside of them? To make borders, I just create a canvas size the desired size of the borders I want around the image in black.

Have you tried making a selection of roughly the area of the visual (with room all around), then added a feather value to your selection, then inversed the selection (will now select the outside) and fill in black? It worked 20 years ago. Must still work today.

Do you work with Photoshop, Josh?
Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

I don't "work" with it per se, I use it for my own personal projects and what not, and am self-taught, but I really don't know much. I'd love to take classes and get REALLY good with it.

Yep still works - here is my writeup:

Well there are a few ways to do it but this seems like the easiest.

          1. Make a selection of the innerside edge of the picture (where you want your border to stop)
          2. Invert it (ctrl-I for PC)
          3. Go to Select then Refine Mask
          4. Then adjust the Feather bar for the desired look you want.
          5. Fill it in w/ the Paint Brush or Fill Tool

By doing it this way, you do technically hide the very edge of the picture, so if you don't want that, just expand the Canvas percent first and then follow the same steps.

Here are the results from what I just described:

*I obviously didn't take the picture, I just used it as a sample...
