Okay this is definitely a 1991 318iS. The color is diamantschwarz, which is a dark metallic grey. It was only available on the 318iS and the E30 M3. It has a shadowline trim surrounding the windows, another 318iS specific item. The antenna grommet is also black, another 318iS item. The 318iS was only available as a 1991 model, but was made from November of 1989 to April of 1991. They only came with those wheels, the optional BBS mesh wheels seen on sport editions of the E30 chassis. The rear spoiler also designates it as a 318iS.

How do I know all this? I own the exact same car. Not the one used for the movie, but one exactly like this. The 318iS was made in very few numbers to challenge the Volkswagen GTi and others like it, and also to introduce the new 4 cylinder engines to BMW (the M42 engine and the later M44).

Also, I dunno if mozinor said that it was a 318iS, I don't speak French!
