Sometimes they do, but the filter socks didn't hold up to high RPM for too long before they start to disintegrate. It really hasn't been an issue though, it's not like there's that much that could get sucked into the motor flying around the engine bay when driving. It's not a rally car or anything, and Mike has several cars so he doesn't have to drive the e36 in foul weather if he doesn't want to.
