Honestly it was due to your deceiving border... I thought it may have been slide film or Reala scanned in a holder. Nothing to do with the flair hahaha

It usually comes out with a heavy green tint if you don't keep your water/develop chems at a steady temp. Whereas worst case I've had with portra is a heavy blue-ish/purple tint that is easier to correct in post.
I have only processed B&W, but I have heard that color is difficult. I have had luck with Walmart as they send it directly to Fuji, but I have really wanted to try doing it myself. I found a guy on flicker that had bought a kit for around $100 and it turned out really good. I think he was using portra 160 too.
