I agree with Nisse about the M54. Its a great engine and isn't much more difficult than a M50 swap. You can get the harness adapter from Andrew325is and 328iJunkie (I hope I got their names right) can flash the ECU for you.The most difficult part is getting a e38 728i oil pick up if you don't want to fabricate your own. Other than that its very similar to a regular M50 swap. e34 oil pan, 325ix brake booster, e28 M5 motor mounts, OBD2 M52 headers, and it shares the same transmission bell pattern as the other 24v engines. There are some small extra things like Fuel pressure regulator mounting and heater hoses, and the electric gas pedal mounting but thats small stuff in the grand scheme of things. You can also use a M52tu (very similar) but I think its rotating assembly is a bit heavier and it has a restrictive intake, but you can put a M54 intake on. It also is drive by cable instead of drive by wire. Aluminum engine block, dual vanos, and DISA valves make for a great little engine.

Just watched Ep 1. Awesome, especially the helicopter shots! Even made me feel better about the rust on my Touring.

Thank you! We thought the 80s theme gave the video a bit of a different feel for that segment, glad you liked it.

The whole import process is not complicated so to say, it is just time consuming and depending on where the car comes from and where its going can range between 2-3k in cost and anywhere between 1-2 months (sometimes more). The biggest challenge is finding people who would work with you...for example a potential seller doesn't have much incentive to hold a car for you for weeks until papers are worked out, shipping company organized, have it inspected by a third party company, take it to various places or have it picked up etc. Plus people sometimes can be weirded out that a foreigner has such great interest in what to them is an old piece of junk....so they may think its a scam or so.

Awesome! Episode 2 is getting delayed because it snows almost every weekend here in Salt Lake City right now :( so while we had a LOT planned for EP 2, we may have to cut it short and put more into EP 3 for the sake of being able to release stuff in a timely manner.
