Don't mean to pry in to your personal life, but for some reason disabilities and medical science (well, science and technology in general) interests me, what was wrong with him and what was done to correct it?

I kinda felt bad makin this.

He was born with: "Pie bott added to bone malformations" (can't translate, so I will explain) Both leg tendons short, so his feet pointed downwards, his left heel was missing, and his tibia and fibula (on the left leg were helix shaped).

The heel was formed out of a piece of bone taken from his hip.
The bones were put back to their original shape by adding an external bracket with adjusting screws that twisted in the oposite direction.
The tendons were cut and resewn to lengthen them. This is achieved by a cut that severs halfway into the tendon, then through the middle downwards, and then through the other half, something like this -!_, then you join both tips and the tendon will regenerate it's thickness.

All this treatment was performed from the day he was born, until he was 2 years old. He got casts (both legs) even before leaving the hospital, then he used correcting casts, external braces, screwed to his bones until he was six months old, when he got his operation (the tendon one).
Then he used special shoes (with corection to point his feet up and out) until he was 2 years old.

What could not be fixed was a difference in size of the feet, left is about 1" smaller.

And left toe points a bit inwards, not worth to correct curved metatarsal bone.

On his 2nd birthday we got his firs pair of normal shoes (we had a party)

He's good at sports now, runs faster than i do, but got rejected by the army (we get drafted here).

And it cost a truckload of money (medical insurance here does not cover birth defects)

Here are some images I found on the web: None of this kid had the upper bone problem though, this meant different casts, with screws, knobs and other stuff.

BTW, we knew he weighed 4.2 kilos when he was born, and never again could weigh him accurately until he was 2.

Rmemeber that casts have to be replaced weekly because they grow up, bolts had to be tightened every 5 days.

That's crazy, he's lucky to have you for a parent. Like you said, those minor imperfections are nothing and not worth it considering what went in to making him function like a normal boy.

What kind of price roughly in USD did you end up paying?

Wouldn't really consider that "slow" though, refers more to mentally rather than physically handicapped people. ;)
