Well one thing that I can say about the first video is that many years ago, most of the gas stations had the hoses on either end of the pump with this tensioner that recoiled the hose after use. The hose had PLENTY of slack in it so regardless of which side the tank was on, the hose would reach. And then as the stations began to modernize they still put quite a bit of slack in the hose so if your back bumper was even with the nozzle, you could reach the tank relatively easily.
