The Frank Stella car if I did it would be paint...

I was told that Stella had the car black first then did the outlines with a grid; then painted over the grid, which could be do-able with some thin tape and lots of time. I was thinking doing an inverse of the Stella car; that is a Steel Gray with either white grid or lighter silver grid.

I'm just afraid if I did the whole car; and added decals (which would be a lot) it really wouldn't work.

If I did Haring; the color would be either white or again Steel Gray with either chrome Haring designs or white.

i hope you go ahead with it- should be interesting. if you keep the steelies and drop it, seems like a perfect platform for the grid.

The original car is not mine just took it off wikipedia.

We'll see if I can go ahead and do it... should be interesting.

Here is one of my test. (Using a friend's Spec E30)

        Looks pretty cool.

        Looks even cooler...

how far away are you from starting this project?

hope you decide to go ahead with it and take pictures of the process.

Cage will be going in April/May then paint after that... I'll def. take photos of the process. I think I am really leaning towards the Haring version. It's a bit easy to do and different... I also am thinking that the E30 doesn't have a wide enough body to make the Stella design work well.

              Cheers.

Artistically, good work drawing it out, but design wise, I don't care for the swirly lines, or the red accents.

What about this: picture just the grid pattern allover. Then imagine all the squares black, but from the front of the car, they are being ripped off in the wind. More so on the front, and gradually less on the rear. The ones ripped off, would be thown back towards the back of the car. And once they are removed, the leave the grid outline beneath.

                      Does that make sense?
