    spacers selection for track use

    Helo!

    I bought an E30 with a S50. The last owner ws planing to bring his car to the track but never finished his project.

    I'm also planing to track the car.

    The last owner had fitted some nice keskin wheel:
    front: 17x8.5 et30 wheel with 35mm spacers
    rear: 17x10 et20 wheel with 35mm spacers

    Those spacers are pushing the wheel pretty far out. I like the stance it gives to the car, but I wonder it is messing in a negative way to the steering and suspension geometrie. (after reading and asking in the tire fitment topic). Basicly, the 35mm spacers add steering offset which induce more stress in the steering.

    I tryed some thinner spacer --> 10mm front and 3-5mm rear would allow the wheels to clear the suspension conponents. However, the fenders of the car are already cut. So it would be nice keeping the 35mm spacer and adding some IE flares.

    Are the 35mm spacers pushing the wheels too far out? Will it make my car unstable when driven to its limit? Will the car be hypersensitive?

    Thanks! :)

    Just cash out for lower offset wheels if you want the 120 spoke cholo omg my wheels are outside my fenders stance.
    Jah bless! :pimp:

      35mm spacers are huge, there is no doubt that it puts more stress on the suspension/steering components. Whether that added stress is too much or will actually brake stuff?...I don't know. Personally I would not run anything more than 15mm and even then I wouldn't be happy about it.

        I was more thinking about the final offset of the wheels + spacers

        front = -5mm
        rear = -15mm

        The spacer itself is not really a problem IMO.

        So what would be the minimum offset to run?

        and the tires are:

        front 235/40/17
        rear 255/40/17

          Stock offset is et30. Anything else will affect geometry. Liking the stance of the car, and actual performance of the suspension are two different worlds. But it is your car. So just track it and se how the car behaves. Wider rear track means more rear grip, which will cause the car to understeer.
          Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

            35mm?? Hard on wheel bearings, and will most definitely affect scrub radius.

              I decided that I would try the spacers, since I already have them. I will keep you updated on on the car feel.

              THe scrub radius is my principal concern, we will see!
