Ebay Roll Cage???

Right, Have any of you ever seen these "universal" style cages... Yea sure the bends are right, and the pieces are pre cut, however nothing is fitted - meaning every piece is left long for the fabricator to do all of the fit work, there is no real advantage to these, use some resources and purchase material local and have your pieces bent by a local weld shop or race shop...

You will save big moneys...

Wow. They even have Chromoly. Yummy. But wait. Cage is a stack of bent tubes. Right? So, does it mean I still need to test fit them, notch them, weld them, sand them, and paint them? It will still require a lot of extra $ to make it to the track.

But hey. Because it is offered on eBay doesn't mean it is junk. eBay is just a showcase. Some is good. Some is... less good.

If you can weld these aren't a bad deal.

You definitely should use DOM tubing, preferably high alloy, but you need to anneal your welds and they should be tig welds...

remember to check your what your club requires.. iirc IKKI, a diagonal bar on your rear brace is req. i'm interested, my problem is i can't weld something like this myself (i've never done it) and if gonna go to a welder i might as well take the car to someone that can do the cage tubing as well..

So I have been talking with Josh over at BDR about getting a cage setup that is SCCA/NASA legal and everything looks good so far.
If anyone has thier measurements from their builds I would like to compare them to what I have done in my car to get something finalized before I send it off too him. Thing is I still have my sunroof cassette cuz I was uninclined to take it out just yet so I will be building my cage with that still in there. But I need measurements for the main hoop with the cassette removed and weather or not it changes/ed the side hoop lengths at all as well.

Can you guys help me out? TIA!

P.S. Also we will be doing this cage in a straight cross door beam config rather then having to cut the driver side door out. Trying to keep this "Kit" as a simple weld-in cage.

I'm no expert in cage design, but that thing doesn't have any of the qualities of a good road racing cage. It doesn't have a dash bar, no foot protection, a single angled door bar (wtf?), no diagonal on the main hoop, no rear diagonal, etc... And there's two relatively useless bars that add 2 points near the main hoop, I assume in place of the main hoop diagonal?

I guess it might be OK for drag racing?

Why do you want a 10 point cage anyway?

its a weld-yer-own so why would you place those last two bars there anyway? I kinda see this as a lego type cage. You get all the parts but its up to you how you put them together. Would be better off using them in conjunction with a few more lengths to make it what you want. This kit would just get all the bends a majority of the pipe measurements and cut and outta the way. Think of it as good starting point for someone that is NOT a complete fabricating god like most r3v'rs are.

ERW tubing - that is a no-no with all road racing groups.

They make it in a DOM as well. This $299 price is for the ERW.

Honestly I may give this a shot in a month or so. I have an "extra" rolling chassis now that I can use for what ever. If it turns out to be kinda whack and not spec e30 legal then maybe it will turn out as an all show-no go kinda setup, or for regular HPDE track days. Who knows.

edit: Maybe I can be the guinna pig and talk them into donating one so I can do a documented build log and maybe get a groupbuy or something going... would be nice!

If you go to there site, they have pictures of their cages. They are a drag racing cage company. They seem to be just like Autopower, generic designs with specific dimensions for each car. So all of their cages will likely look the same, just made to fit each car.

It could very well be a good drag cage, I know nothing about the design of them.
