Looks like you tried to keep the car balanced, what were the final corner weights?
Cant remember the final corner weights, but they are in the thread link posted on the first page by another member. Cross weights with me in the car were 50/50 perfect. That was with a total weight of 2608, I'm light. Front to rear was 54/46 iirc, but without me in it.

Look for a thread by iflytii on e30tech.com, he's built a (I think CMOD E30), fiberglass doors/fenders, CF hood and trunk, fiberglass dash, lexan windows, full cage, etc.
Can't remember what his weight is though.

-Euro bumpers
-Light early carpet (no insulation)
-Light exhaust
-No A/C, no condenser
-No P/S
-Cloth interior from a 318is (had Corbeau GTS's in it for a while)
-No radio, speakers are still there
-No antenna
-No amp
-1/2 trunk tar removed
-Light battery
-No heat shielding-- trans tunnel, around the exhaust, or anywhere else
-Lighter Kosei 15x8 wheels
-Little M42 radiator
-Light flywheel (yeah...)
-Aluminum motor mount arms and plastic valve cover ;)
I've got a few other things done that I dont remember, but I've had the car for a long time. I still need to put in the crank windows and hole saw everything. I posted a thread a while back in the 24 valve section from when I corner weighed the car. There might be more info there.

My stripped out 318is shell (no tar) with a light M20 with no sunroof, carbon fiber 12Lb seats and all ac removed weighs in at 2480
I do have a cage but there is really only a few more things that can go...
were did you weigh it?

My street driven car with full interior weighs ~2,450 lbs. and the heavy slug twin cam six in the front, so your goal of a 2,000 lb. track car should be achievable. I personally know a fellow that BMW club races in C-mod with an E30 that weighs 1,980 lbs. I cannot think of any exterior sheet metal on that car..
So yes, with the right wallet, you can do it.

Getting down to 2200lb will be a challenge. In addition to the obvious (power steering, A/C, heater, sunroof, glass and regulators, only a driver race shell seat, headlights, and all sound deadening material (inside the car, engine bay and underneath), switching to a small lightweight fuel cell, I think you'll have to go to fiberglass doors, hood, and trunk. The cage will add a good bit of weight back in. After this the car's balance will be upset with the rear very light and I think you'll wind up adding balance to the trunk to restore handling.

some ideas. keep in mind i have no idea if these are track legal
-fiber glass hood trunk and fenders
-try and see if you can replace some windows with some sort of plexiglas
-light track wheels
-remove all unneeded wiring
-remove stereo components
-remove heater aircon and all related pipes and venting
-remove sunroof and weld in blank
-remove any unneeded electronics of any kind switches dials computers
-basically remove any and all parts that are not 100% necessary for a track only car and try and replace everything ells with lighter stuff
that's all i can think of. but your going to have to add weight back in when you do your roll cage and other safety mods. plus you don't want your car to be to light because then it is just going to be floating all over the place.

I would figure it would take cf or fiberglass fender, hood, and trunk and then drilling out a lot of stock spot welded supports.
