    The OE fuel sensor is 60 ohms when the tank is empty and 0 ohms when full.

    I use OE sensors for fuel and engine temp and a VDO 0-180 ohm pressure sensor for oil pressure. Other than the tach, all sensor inputs are via a Racepak Universal Sensor Module.

    OK so the OEM sensors are approximatly 80 ohms empty and 0 full??? Something like that?

    On the racepak iq3 did you have to buy a sensor for the fuel level gauge???? or is it aan included setting in the IQ3?

    A "smart" dash is a pricey item. The resistance range of the OE sensor doesn't match most aftermarket gages (the gage will be very inaccurate) and is inverted w/respect to most gages (the gage will read empty when the tank is full and full when the tank is empty). About as close as you can get would be a gage meant for a pre 1989 Ford or Chrysler. Those vehicles had a sensor that was 73 ohms for an empty tank and 10 ohms for a full tank. Used with the OE sensor the gage will probably read about 1/4 when the tank is empty and will read full when the tank is at about 3/4 or above.

    How can i install a fuel level gauge??? Is there a way to use the OEM sender and just tap a wire for the digital fuel level gauge?/?


    Somebody has to have done this before???

    The first question that I have is which tank (early single sensor or late dual sensor) you have. The early tank is easy because it has a cross over tube between the tank halves. The late tank requires two sensors operating in series or dual gages.

    The easiest gage to add is one meant for a fuel cell and those are a probe type that can be shortened to fit. Another possibility is to replace the cluster with a RacePak IQ3 and use the OE sensors via a RacePak USM, which is what I have in my Spec E30.

    If you are talking about a Fuel Level gauge, think about how it works. It somehow needs to "read" what the level of liqued (fuel) is in the tank right? So, easy way to do is via a "float" that moves up / down with the level of gas in the tank right? Now, this "float" must do something for the gauge to "read". So, what the float does is acts like a Variable Resistor and the fuel level gauge in the cluster reads from that.

    I imagine aftermarket fuel level gauge will have information on what it needs to work properly, look it up.

    Anyone know whats the easiest way to run an aftermarket Fuel LEVEL Gauge?

    Im installing a custom dash and want to run an autometer or something similar... Digital or mechanical???? Any ideas?

    I heard something about the Ohm readings????? WTF??? LOL??
