He, he. For the benefit of the community. There will soon be a scavenge hunt at Audi scrapyards. Another $5 fix.

Is this is for 1 pump system ? or what am I missing here !surge tank is generally locate where ?

The Audi accumulator trick only works on e30s with pre and main pumps systems.

A surge tank is usually located in the trunk and also needs a feed pump and a pressure pump.

Which E30s came with a pre and main pump, also would just adding a more powerful pump help solve the issue?

you posted in the original article ^ about this. So you want to use an accumulator? it appears Jleivies 'solution' keeps everything in tank using later style tank ? or am I missing something here- 2 different solutions w/ diff tank styles/systems interesting discussion /education . Thanks all

Somewhat on topic, but would it be possible to install the pre and main pump on a car that wasn't originally equipped with it...like my 318is?

I'm thinking about purchasing the larger 63L tank to increase range.

                        Yes, that can be done.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

So does anyone have the part #? The problem is way worse now that i'm boosted. I get starvation at about half a tank even on not so long turns now.

My 85 gti has an accumulator but the last time i checked it was a $150 part.

I didn't want to deal with the weight and packaging of a surge tank, so I just switched to a late (post '89) tank with two late in-tank pumps (the high pressure ones, not the pre-pumps). Then I made a few lines (please don't use like 8 feet of rubber line to do something like this just because it's cheaper and easier. Do it right and make some stainless lines) in order to connect each pump to the factory fuel line going to the engine. I connected the return to the return line on the tank. It works great and now I can literally do clockwise circles on the skidpad all day long.

Before this, I'd been using one of the pumps as a transfer pump to send fuel to the pickup bowl for the pre-pump, which then fed the main pump. Besides being heavier and more complicated, this setup also didn't work as well.
