Exactly. Some people are tire snobs. They consider a tire gone when it doesn't run as fast as when it was still is as sticky as new. But yet the tire has plenty of grip left to have fun. But there is a point when even I will stop using a tire when it's too hard.

But a tire on different cars with a different driver will obviously wear differently.

I tend to take tires to the cords, as far tire snobery, If I feel a tire is unsafe for what ever reason I will drill a hole in the sidewall so it can not be sold as used rubber. I will even go so far as to have the tire flipped on the rim to try to get extra time out it. Rubber is expensive, I figure $80 per hour just for rubber.

        tires

sheesh......this thread has been back and forth and back again.

        as per your orig post...

        .
go 01s or ra 1s.....simple as that...and shave the ra1s......and you can still drive em to the tracks..i have for 5 yrs!.....and get 40 cycles and could get more...but I sell em...you cant beat that.......but if you do rain alot....dont shave.

Most dont like 888s.....but if you ask long enough youll find some that like em!...

        R1s?.......Most luv em.......

I run 225/50 15....why go 225/45 unless you have to?...its kinda short isnt it?....

I have run all three of those tires on a much heavier car on track(cts-v).
My friend put it the best "RA1's suck, but they suck for a long time.." They do not have the overall grip that the NT01's have however they do last longer. Basically, if you want the fast lap times, you buy NT01's, if you want a tire you can run for a very long time go with the RA1's. R888's just suck, there is a reason spec miata went from RA1's to R888's then back to RA1's. Spec E30 also did the same. Quote from the rulebook.

"9.3.9.1. Beginning January 1, 2010, The Toyo RA-1, size 205/55/14 or 205/50/15 must be usedin qualifying and competition. Any tire brand may be used in practice or other non
competition sessions. The Toyo R888 size 205/55/14 or 205/50/15 may be used in
qualifying and competition sessions for the first two race weekends in each respective
NASA Region after January 1, 2010.
