Is the BP-20 really an appropriate pad for a street car? Wilwood's site say's "track only." And I got to be honest, I'm not 100% happy with it. After about a years worth of street only use, the car hums very loudly when breaking from high speed on the highway. Breaking at high speed also causes my steering column to shake pretty badly. I figure my rotors are warped at this point, but I dont see that as a norm since I havent even changed out my first set of pads.
Just from the Wilwood site, the E compounds seem like the way to go. Any input?
Edit:
Even though Compound A is "race only" as well, wouldnt the higher friction at colder temps be a good thing for a high performance daily? I mean when do you really get those pads good and hot on a 60 sec stint on a back road?

OK, Another update here. RaceShopper called back to let me know that they can "custom order" the Hawk pads to be machined to 12mm from the factory. Lets hope they don't screw me with some 16mm pads.Leave a comment:

strange, I just ordered some HT10s in 7812 from these guys. They seemed to have no issue with it.
Well shit, I'm glad I called them back to check. Upon further questioning, they indeed claim there are no Hawk 12mm. I had to cancel the order. To be honest, I don't think that Hawk makes a 12mm pad...The next set of pads will likely be Wilwoods that fit.

Dude, do you have any idea what the problem is that caused you to receive the 16mm thick pads? Doesn't 7812 indicate a 12mm thickness?Leave a comment:

Indeed, thats why I chose em. Several track guys recommended them, along with yourself.HT10s are very good pads. Very forgiving and working and progressive in the rain too. Just remove a thin 3mm layer and you should be golden. If you have an hour to kill, simply rub them on coarse asphalt in an "8" shape to distribute the wear. It works great. I did it two years ago with 21mm pads doing down to 16mm, at a race weekend. But it takes quite some time.
That's a good method albeit an incredibly long one. We'll see if 2002maniac can help me out or another local machine shop before I attempt to manually shave it down on asphalt!Leave a comment:
