any thoughts on a good alternative to hawk blue?

i have really liked the hawk blues for my e30m50, but they chew rotors quickly. since my last track day, i have put in m3 cams (will be going faster) and installed the e36 brakes (should be cooling brakes better), but im looking for other pads that might work. i will be instructing so there will be very little time to switch pads between sessions.

    stick with hawk blue's? (9012's at 250-1000f)
try hawk ht10's? maybe a little overkill (300-1600f)
    mintex c-tech 1122 or 1144?
can i survive on axxis ultimates? (currently use for street and suposidly work till 1022f)

    any insight? thanks,jason

What rotors? Are we talking stock e30 stuff?

If so, stick with the blues or try the 10's. E30 rotors are dirt cheap and easy to swap. Don't waste your time with the axxis pads. If you want to try a nice street/track pad, go with the HP+'s, they're nicer on rotors than a full on track pad, but will still chew them up pretty well. At ~30 bucks a rotor though, who cares?

HT-10's or HP+'s if you wont stay with blues, still HT-10's though over the blues.

Hawk Blues fucking rule. E30 rotors are cheap, why do you care? Let them chew rotors. I have like 4 sets of E30 rotors sitting around for the task :)

thanks for the quick response. ive tried the hp+'s......used 90% of pad, overheated, charred and warped the backing plates in just one track day. with e30 brakes and m20 motor.

from the response, i think i'll stick with the hawk blues or try a set of the 10's. im now running the e36 300mm stock rotors / brakes. hawk blues are like "throwing out anchor" and can really slow a car down quickly. modulating at brake release is not perfect....but predictable. im just experiencing sticker shock, the hawk blues now cost 150 (for e36) vs. 80 (for e30).

anyone with track time on the mintex c-tech 1144? or is it the 1122's

              thanks again, jason

Holy shit bro, what track? If you're not currently running brake cooling, purchase some ducting NOW.

Welcome to going faster, it costs more money. You want the good stuff, you pay more $$. Mintex's purpose in life is to serve as the rear pad for Hawk's on an e30 stock setup. Otherwise, they're "eh". Stick with the Hawks and just suck it up.

it was at blackhawk farms in rockton illinois. its a 1.9mi "more technical" track with 7 turns (really 10) and 3 hard braking zones. i am working on getting some backing plates mocked up for ducting, plumbing from front air inlet on the 89s. im a little concerned about rain (as its still my daily driver.) any thoughts? cheers, jason

One of the instructors here with the same setup installs the duct hoses before each track day at the track and removes them when he changes tires at the end of the day. Seems to work fine.
