Things learned/confirmed this weekend at first HPDE, etc

If you haven't been to a track event, sign up and learn for yourself.
If you have been to more than me, I don't know anything so check over these and confirm/argue

    k thanks

NASA has a lot of faster cars, even in Novice class.
Not all fast cars have fast drivers. i.e. Woman in a corvette.

Assholes in red S2000s should learn to give point-bys. No matter how small your penis....let the faster cars by and control your ego. ..... and popped collars on their 45 year old drivers look REALLY RETARDED.

Watch your mirrors, and on the next permitable straight, give a point by.
It sucks to be behind slow moving traffic, so don't be that.

WRXs need to pick up the path. And then eventually did.

Going hot into the turn and having to adjust and then salvage the turn is a lot slower than braking more and following the better line.

The rear swaybar removal trick does work - wonderfully. And oversteer so that your rear end wants to step out on Turn 9 at 50 isn't good. So fix it.

Hawk HP+'s are too much pad for me now. OEM-replacement Pagid worked great for the majority of the weekend, and no noticable fade. (But I'm easy on the brakes....)

195/60-14 sure have not too great of limits. I wish I could contain more speed and gs in the corners.
195/60-14 have low limits....so when you screw up, it's not as bad. Or easier to feel and react to. And thank got I don't have greater.

4.10 is really fun to the track, and helps to accelerate out of turns.
4.23 may be too short, at least right now.

I miss having the extra rpms of a chip.
    I'm glad I didn't have more torque.

SS brake lines are very nice item to have.
But I'd rather have stock lines that are freshly bled than SS lines with air in them.

It's great to have someone around who knows E30s like the back of their hand, esp. if they work at Treehouse. (and helping to find problem/source of noise that made you pit/come in)

Go to class, no matter how much you're read or been on the internet. You may hear something that will help to prevent an accident, or hear day-specific or track-specific information.

Listen to your instructor. He knows better than you how to improve.

Learn the line before you try to take the one you start with faster.

You really can find more speed by taking the line better and achieving better exit speeds by accelerating through the turn.

    Slow in, Fast out.

You can find yourself after improving line with greater speed coming to the next corner.....which means more braking!!

You can find out which corners should NOT be taken with excess newly found speed, if you don't remember the lesson directly above.

If you go off the track, steer straight. Putnam's grass is nice and soft and doesn't hurt.

Don't brake in a middle of a turn. Esp if you rear end is hanging in the air.

If you spin, both feet in.

Watch the person in front of you and be ready to react if worse comes to shove, and predict a spin and adapt to avoid hitting him.

Thank you Rob for not letting me R3V both of us. (Although I never want to see you face to face out there again)

Softer springs mean more body roll, more weight transfer, and a "wobbly" feeling.

You really do go faster driving the better line!

Don't rush and don't worry about people passing you.

Be sure to have gas. Don't be stranded on the course so the whole session is black flagged while you are towed to the pits.

be prepared! have lots of tools you might need, and spare shit.

weight is evil. urethane is godly.

don't need a FUH RAZE car to start with. opposite is nice. start slow and easy and basic, then work up. Easier then high limits of wide tires and stiff ride, and too much power.

If you can't turn quickly, what is the point of getting there faster?

sign up for another one. you aren't "done" yet

p.s. my setup rocks. i'm glad it's all together and solid. now just eventually up the spring rates, drop weight, go with more tire.....and then up power. all while improving the most important item - driver.

there is a lot more speed in my car right now, I just have to drive the line and do it smooth.

Bleeding the brakes is a MUST. If you do anything to prep your car before an event that would be it.

yeah definately. it was rock solid, but the point I was trying to made is spending $ and especially doing all the work to install SS lines goes to absolute waste if the system is not bleed properly.

hence, i'd rather have bled stock system than an air-containing ss-braided one.

        also forgot:
e30s were fucking made for this shit!
throw on a suspension and hit the track on some weaves. then eventually step it up a notch. reliable, easy to work on, and semi light, and pretty nice power, and rwd. beauty.

Gotcha. I really want to get an e30 out on the track sometime. My 318 really isn't fit for the track but I'm sure a well set up LM 325 or 318is would be really fun. Much lighter and more nimble than my e46 and e36 are on track!
