Clutch+flywheel

So found out the motor that came with the car is no good. Anyways, I'm getting a new motor, and while I'm in there, I'm contemplating doing the clutch and flywheel. Car is a track only car, so fuh raze is in effect.

What clutch and flywheel do you guys run?

Also, what do you do for short shifters?

stock flywheel, poore sports clutch, e36 m3 shifter.

M20 single mass with the notch on the back shaved, so it's at 15 lbs. Sachs clutch. z4 2.5 shifter. The shifter is great, but you have to move your hand a really long way from the wheel to the shifter. If you go this route, consider getting one of those super long knobs.

I've used a ClutchMaster's Stage 2 and a Spec Stage 3 on my Spec E30. I think I like the Spec clutch better for a track car.

stock m20 sachs sport clutch........z3 1.9 shifter( the 2.5 is quite short and too notchy IMO), the e36 m3 lever is nice as well.....

.............euro 323 fly....balanced and light( @ 13 or 14 lbs) , no issues(around 300 clams)

How come so many people recommend stock flywheel over the Jb aluminum. Is it cause of the price or the feel?

keep in mind a bunch of us have to adhere to Spec E30 rules which do not allow us to substitute the stock flywheel.

That makes sense, but for the people who do not have this limitation would you recommend the Jb flywheel over a shaved stock?

The only reason it is in my car is because it was already there when I bought the car. Although I haven't had any issues with it and enjoy having a nice light flywheel.

there was a thread on here a while back arguing the pros/cons of lightened flywheels.. my opinion is that less mass on the drivetrain can only be a good thing but I doubt it makes a huge performance difference. Hard to say if it makes cost effective sense.

I have a spec stage 3. It's nice. It's still streetable and easy enough to drive to and from events, but grabby enough too. Engagement is a bit rough, but I don't mind. You can stall easily if you're not paying attention.

A lightened flywheel makes a huge difference in the lower gears to the cars acceleration.....I read somewhere that installing a 12lb flywheel over the stock 19-20lb one was like removing over 200lbs from the car in acceleration in the lower gears (1st and 2nd)
