Nice - good to see this since I'll be there in Oct. for the Chump race.

What was the fastest lap time he ran?

Specs on the car, including tires/brakes/suspension. Trying to get an idea of what to expect for lap times so I can figure out how much gas we are going to use for 25ish hours of racing....

      Hello,
OK well lap times I do not have for this event because we were just out having some fun but if you were to look at the 3rd or 4th lap on the video those were probably the best laps of that video and you may be able to get some sort of rough estimate of a lap time from that.

      The specs:
      SpecE30
      @1750 #'s
      spec springs (H&R)
      spec sway bars (H&R)
I'm pretty sure the shocks are bilstein but also spec to the series
      r888 tires
      hawk HT10 brake pads
spec exhaust...basically straight pipe with a spec muffler
      stock engine

In 4 20 minute sessions we never had to get gas but on the last lap the fuel light did come on. I hope this helps and if I left anything out let me know.

Just a couple of clarifications here.

The car weighs about 2500lbs wet. It has to weigh 2700 with driver at the end of a race (assumed empty gas tank).

The springs are H&R Race Spec at 50404-88 or H&R RG701 HA.10 Rear
        50404-88F and EBS-BMW-3/1 Front
Shocks are Bilstein spec at - B36-2027 Rear -
        P36-0335 or P30-0334 Front
Bars in this case are Suspension Techiques - Fixed front at 22 mm and adjustable rear at 19mm. Other vendors (Ireland, Ground Control, H&R, Etc) are permitted as long as they are spec size and non-adjustable front bar.
This is all "off the shelf" bolt on stuff designed to keep cars equal and costs down.
Coilovers are not permitted in Spec E30

We have never really done any enduros but based on past experience, you should be able to get 2hrs out of a tank of gas. Maybe more if the car is a 325e. So 2hrs per tank /25 hrs = 12.5 tanks

Looks like maybe 1:26-ish for fast lap time. My estimation (hope) of ~1:30 might not be that far off....

2 hours run time would be awesome. That is what I'm hoping for snice it works nice for the math with driver changes and obviously, less stops the better. But I really have no idea what kind of fuel economy we are going to get - first test should be end of the month.

We wont have the handling that a SE30 has (between tires and dampers/front camber), but power to weight ratio should be better. The set-up for our car will be:
          • 2.7 bottom end
          • I top end with 524 ECU (unchipped)
          • port matched intake side, cleaned-up ports on exhaust side
          • stock manifold (eta) to straight pipe (haven't determined exhaust dia yet - prob 2.5, maybe 2.25)
          • ~2250-2300 lbs w/o driver (gotta get it on the scales again once I get it back from the cage shop)
          • spring rates close to H&R sports (that was the target, FR should be within a few, rears I still need to measure, but should be close)
          • stock is front sway (searching for a cabrio FR sway local - or maybe I'll double up the 2 bars have)
          • Star Spec 205/50R15 tires
          • Cobalt Friction XR2/XR4 brake pads
          • 3.73 rear end

Video will certainly be posted once I have some. GoPro HD will be in this car too :D

That combo will probably use more gas than we do. I would guess that set up (you are using an "i" intake manifold correct?) car will be pushing 170HP to the wheels. Ours is 140-145Hp at the wheels. We also use a 3.73 by rule. With conservative driving (shifting at 6000) and ineveitble yellow flags you still should get 2 hrs. per tank.

If you have not decided on exhaust yet, you really should consider the spec setup. It is inexpensive (About $200), is cut to fit an e30, it works better than a straight pipe (a little back pressure helps low range torque), and it sounds great. Call Paul Poore, 215-795-2952 Poore Sports
The manufacturer of the exhaust system specified for use in SpecE30 cars.

You also really should consider aftermarket bars. Contact Jack Money at Elephant (right there in Brighton, MI) . He can tell you what will work and what won't and understands racers on tight budgets.

Good Luck and keep us posted

Yes, full "I" top end from AFM to head-gasket. Getting that kind power would be great, but not expected. No engine work done on a 180k+ mile bottom end and unknown top-end - The stock 2.7 engine burned some oil, I'm just not sure if it was all leaking from the old head's valve guides or if its blow-by... I may be down on compression. I do plan on putting the car on a dyno, just to see what it can do.

I'll look into that exhaust. Back-pressure/gas velocity and scavenging is why I was looking at different tube diameters.

As for the bars (and to some extent the exhaust) its not my budget that is dictating a less-expensive alternative of stock parts and simple tube, but the rules for the event. Chump Car put the E30 at a top value, so any extra, non-stock parts could get us penalty laps.

And now I shall attempt to un-hyjack this thread... I shall post up a long-overdue update in the project forum.... http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=189404
