    Anyone ice race their e30?

    Hi guys,I ice race up here in Ontario Canada and we have a couple e30's and an e21 that run in the rwd street studded tire class.I don't run rwd any more(used to run an AE86)as I prefer to go faster and unless your running an MR2 your getting your ass handed to you.

    Here's a vid from last year,I was driving my buddies awd corolla wagon and if you watch at 6:40 you'll see the bmw's.Btw the awd,rwd and fwd guys are racing together but are having the their own race for class positions.

      Too much fun! I would love to do multi-lap racing like that on ice.

            I wish there was a place around here where I can do that!!! What kind of tires are you guys using? Regular winter tires with studs, or real rally racing studded tires?

              I have considered running the chump car on ice this winter - partially for working on car control, mostly for the fun of it.

              A club about an hour north of me run autocross-type events. Wheel to wheel on ice looks nuts.

                Yes it is a blast,I've been doing it for 16 years and for sure its good for driving skills.
                The class I run uses studdable winter tires with small studs,its a spec tire class so we're all on the same tires built for us by the same shop-makes it nice a fair.
                We also have non studded tire classes(allowed to be siped,tractionized for much improved grip)and also a Menard ice race tire class-they get up some decent speed but having driven in that class before its a little spooky not being able to see the car 10 feet from you while drifting at 70 mph.
                I'm building what may be the nuttiest car we've ever had there,here's what I'm building;
                Took the engine from this(I built the car from scratch),a 2002 yamaha R1 running on megasquirt.

                And put it into last year geo metro ice racer,it had a 13b twin cam swap with cams,bored TB and chipped.

                But instead of putting it up front with fwd I put it in the middle and making it awd-like this.Using swift front end parts custom fabbed into the rear.

                Sorry for the non e30 content,mines tucked away for the winter with no chance of ever seeing ice while I own.

                    Some years ago I did for a portion of the season, have not in many years. Our Chapter's Ice Racing Chairman passed last year. Stan Jackson. Good guy!

                    It appears we will not have ice racing this season unless someone steps up to the plate.

                              Well well well. Looks like a fellow ice racer (and my competition) is on this forum. Here is my ice racing beast. It looks like crap but it gets the job done. :)

                              I have a couple of tricks up my sleeve to try to fight off the bike engined monster above but it's going to be tough.
